How about this for a cast? Harvey Keitel (Bad Lieutenant, From Dusk Till Dawn), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) and Roy Dupuis (La Femme Nikita).

According to Shock Till You Drop (not one of our usual RDO sources!) this will be Rodrigo Gudiño's first feature, a remake of the Spanish/Italian grindhouse western Condenados a vivir.

QUOTE
Cut Throats Nine follows a wagonload of convicts as they travel the northern mountains to carry out their death sentences. Following a surprise attack from a gang of bandits, only the sergeant, his beautiful young daughter and seven of the most sadistic, murderous men alive survive the assault.

According to the film's press release, Cut Throats Nine is described as a "crowd-pleasing experience that pushes the relatively subdued excesses of both the western and the horror movie into creative new territory."

It will be filmed in Toronto in 2010.

Note: The original, filmed in 1972, is also called Cut Throats Nine in the US, and is out on dvd under that title. Have a look.

Wow, what a cast. Makes you wonder whether Roy will be cast as one of the bad guys, or whether he'll be the sargeant with the beautiful daughter.

After so many roles where his character was relatively young, and his children mere youngsters, it took some doing to see him as growing old enough to be the father of a sullen 20-something-year-old daughter in Mémoires Affectives. He's old enough now to be convincing as the father. However, don't most actors say they prefer playing bad guys because those are the meatier, more complex roles?

Thanks for the info, viv. Gives us something to look forward to. cool.gif

You think? I wouldn't have thought this would have been a popular choice.

Roy told us at table that he would be playing a REALLY bad guy in this re-make.....
BUT also still NOT quite a bad as the rest of the gang.
The fact that Harvey Keitel, the Danish 'super-star', etc. are on the list of players might have something to do with the fact that he accepted the job. Also of course that it will mainly be filmed locally (Quebec and Ontario). He also said that the project will most likely get the go-ahead by February.

According to this site, director Rodrigo Gudiño's short, The Facts In The Case Of Mister Hollow, was shown at Fantastic Fest 2008, which puts it on a par with Truffe on so many levels.

Is Roy still at the stage of taking dodgy parts to co-star with more famous stars? Apparently. Why would anyone want to remake 'the most violent western ever made', and why would Roy think it's a suitable vehicle for him? Beats me.

Yes, dubious/dodgy is "in". I also think money and also some new exposure might have something to do with it. It is also possible that not that many other suitable parts are "flying" by right now. It seems he's biding his time at the moment and is enjoying his time off...

Anything with Harvey Keitel has to be good. He is one of the boys from the hood. We lived in the same area and went to the same high school. wub.gif

Of course anything with Roy Dupuis has to be marvelous (for me and imo, except Truffe) and I don't know who Mads Mikkelson is.

I wonder if Roy will ever go sailing on his voyage around the world. BUT, if the money and the parts are available, I say grab it while the grabbing is good.

Lila, I am so sorry that you didn't like Truffe. I thought it was a HOOT! It is so reminiscent of the 1950's B-Science Fiction movies. It just cracked me up. When Celine said, "You've got my man, dammit!" and smacked that guy with the 2x4, it just nearly did me in...so hilarious!

...I wonder if Roy will ever go sailing on his voyage around the world...

I asked him at our table and Roy said he is just about all ready to leave on the sea voyage (just needs a part for his boat, which he hopes to get this winter) He said he will put the boat in the water in the spring, move it to the Caribbean or South America by late summer (hurricane season) and set sail by Autumn 2010. As Roy has said in the "Franc Tireurs" interview: he will come back to land as necessary for work while he is sailing the world for a minimum of 5 years! (Afterall, he'll need money to keep travelling for such a long time!) I love Harvey Keitel's acting. The Danish guy was good in "Casino Royale" as James Bond's nemesis. I do think this film sounds like a weird choice for Roy but...we'll see. (I must admit, the strange "Truffe" is growing on me the more I watch it...so maybe this horror/western will too!)

I'm with you, Lila. Grab the available parts while the grabbing is good. w00t.gif

Earlier, when I said Cut Throats Nine will give us something to look forward to, it wasn't so much the movie's theme. (Not overly fond of westerns or horror movies!) I meant that the opportunity to see Roy's present TV series, Les Rescapés, will probably be limited or delayed on DVD. I would hope a movie with this cast would be more quickly available to the English-speaking audience.

Of course, I'm still waiting to see Death Instinct and The Timekeeper. *sigh*

Well if it's done well it should be good - '3:10 to Yuma' was excellent - so a modern western could work. Plus remakes seems all the rage these days - unfortunately. And as you've all said his boat takes a lot of money so....

O..M..G!

I've long had fantasies about Roy wearing a construction worker's toolbelt, slung low over his hips, his confident strut making the tools dance as they dangle from their leather pouches. heart.gif

NOW you've added the image of a gun belt, the bottom of the holster snugly tied to his muscular thigh by a leather cord; spare bullets circling his waistband, gleaming in the noon sun; his slender fingers poised at his side, ready to draw his gun at a moment's notice; green eyes squinting, quietly observing and assessing all ... and CHAPS! ohmy.gif

Karen, even when you're not feeling 100%, you really know how to stir things, don't cha? blush.gif These new images (Roy as gunfighter, Roy as cowboy) are worthy additions to the fantasy arsenal. wub.gif Yee-haw! You can bust my bronco any day, pardner! w00t.gif

-- Gretchen

P.S. Granted this "grindhouse" horror-western won't be anything like the old-style westerns. But I liken these mental images to Gary Cooper, who made a reputation as a cowboy of few words. Yup.
